About Dachau Private Tour
Experience the gravity of Germany’s first Nazi concentration camp. On this Dachau Private Tour, a guide will lead you through the barracks, the cells, and more. The site includes two crematoria: an older one built in 1940 and the larger Barrack X complex constructed in 1942. These buildings were used for the cremation of prisoners who died in the camp. Walk through the area and reflect on their history and what took place there.

Great tour guide
We were very impressed with Matt. He picked us up right on time, and made the Dachau memorial site tour from Munich so easy. The tour of the camp itself was very sobering. However, Matt was extremely respectful of its history while still being informative. He answered all of our questions and really knew his homework. I’m extremely glad we sprung for this guided tour. I doubt I would have fully understood the site’s history if we had visited by ourselves. I definitely recommend it.
Nice to have a private tour in a place like this
We wanted to pay our respects when visiting the Dachau concentration camp memorial. We wanted to really learn about its history. The private tour was the right way to go. Matt fully adapted the tour to us, based on what we wanted to see. We weren’t interested in the crematorium. He did, however, show us all of the barracks and spoke a lot about the clergy imprisoned there. He also spoke a lot about the medical experiments. It was very nice to have the tour so customized - I appreciate it.

WALK AROUND THE FIRST NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMP
Opened on March 22nd, 1933, Dachau was the first concentration camp. As such, its layout was the model for all other camps. As you explore, your guide will point out its main characteristics. Dachau had 3 parts: the administrative camp, the prisoners’ camp, and the crematorium. The administrative section hosted the command center and soldiers’ living quarters. The prisoners’ part was mostly barracks. You’ll see a barrack for medical experimentation, and one only for imprisoned clergy. Make sure to tell your guide which interests you most. Since it’s a private tour, the route is customizable.
EXPLORE THE SS TRAINING FACILITY
As your guide will tell you, the Reich’s largest SS (Schutzstaffel) training center was at Dachau. The Schutzstaffel were Hitler’s paramilitary organization. They were also chiefly responsible for the horrors of World War II. Their training center was for military and ideological training. However, there was also a medical school. You’ll also see soldiers’ barracks, administrative buildings, and industrial factories. Your guide will show you most of the site, but not the whole area - it’s 136 acres large. If you have a specific request, ask away, and your private guide will adjust the tour.
LISTEN TO YOUR GUIDE’S HISTORY LESSON
As part of the Dachau Private Tour, your guide will teach you the history of Dachau. From its opening in 1933 to its liberation in 1945, it was the only camp to operate for all 12 years of Hitler’s tyranny. All in all, over 200,000 people were imprisoned at the camp, of 34 different nationalities. Of these, over 43,000 prisoners were murdered. As your guide will teach you, it was also the main camp for imprisoned clergy who defied the Nazi regime. While exploring, ask your guide all the questions you have. Since it’s a private tour, you have lots of time to dive into the topics that intrigue you most.
EXIT AND REFLECT ON YOUR VISIT
As you leave the site, think about what you saw and learned. Remember Dachau’s solemn past and honor the victims of Nazi persecution and the Holocaust.
